Brouwerij Kazematten

Kazematten is located within the old ramparts of the city of Ypres, which boasts a rich brewing history.

The last brewery in Ypres closed its doors in 1976, leaving the city without its own brewery until 2014, when Brouwerij Kazematten began operations. Kazematten is the result of a collaboration between two legendary beer figures—Hans Depypere (CEO of St. Bernardus) and Rudi Ghequire (former brewmaster and beer ambassador of Rodenbach, now retired). They joined forces and launched this microbrewery.

Kazematten is situated in a stunning location: a historic casemate, a vaulted space within the Ypres ramparts. These fortifications were originally built around 1680, and it’s hard to imagine a more magnificent setting for a microbrewery!
