Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven – La Trappe

Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven – La Trappe

The La Trappe authentic Trappist beers have been brewed at Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven Abbey since 1884.

The monastery was founded by a small group of French monks who found refuge in Berkel-Enshot in Brabant. They settled in the moorland with some farmhouses and a sheep barn, formerly owned by King Willem II (Koningshoeven = kings farmhouses in Dutch) and soon the monastery was built. And not long after that, the first beers were brewed at the monastery as well.

The Benedictine wisdom of “Ora et Labora” – pray and work – is still in the epicenter of the daily rythm of the monks. The proceeds from the brewery are being used in the upkeeping of the Abbey and in various charities across the Globe.

Proef de stilte – Taste the silence.
